6 July 2020
Over the last few months you are likely to have noticed a difference in the way things are being done in general practice, as we manage coronavirus (COVID-19).
We would like to start off by saying thank you!
Thank you for adapting so quickly to these new ways of working- it has been drastic, yet fundamental, change needed to ensure the safety of you and our staff.
We are pleased to announce, in line with recent government announcements, we are preparing to restart some of our normal GP services. These include:
- Routine blood tests
- Cervical smears
- B12 injections
- Contraception injections
For those patients who were having regular B12 injections, they will be invited to have B12 blood tests to try and distinguish the cause of their deficiency and determine if further injections are required. Appointments for these blood tests will be released from 20/07/20 and will operate on a first come basis. Please call the surgery to arrange for an appointment. Blood testing will then commence on the week commencing 3rd August 2020 and results will be communicated to patients within 10 working days from the date of testing. Please note, we have a significant amount of patients who require blood testing. Therefore, appointment availability could be up to several weeks. For those patients who have upcoming blood test appointments and were previously having regular B12 injections, please inform the nurse at the start of your appointment who will add the necessary B12 tests to your request form.
Please be advised, all patients that attend the surgery will need to have a face covering, to help protect themselves and our staff. In line with social distancing measures, our waiting rooms capacity will be significantly reduced. Therefore, your appointments may be made at one of our sites in Sholing and Bitterne (Chessel Avenue) site. While we realise this could be inconvenient, we think it is important to keep people safe, reduce the spread of coronavirus and get the maximum benefit from the healthcare resources, which will be available.
For those patients who have long term conditions that require annual monitoring, we are conducting these reviews virtually either via telephone or a questionnaire. Should you have any questions regarding annual reviews, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Just before the pandemic, we launched the eConsult service, which many of you have utilised. This service is available to all patients, regardless of age and can be found on our website (https://www.peartreepractice.co.uk). Once an eConsult has been submitted, it will be reviewed by a clinician and we aim to contact you within 1-2 working days. We have received fantastic feedback for this service and we will continue using this service going forwards.
Finally, the resumption of services is based on the current trajectory of the pandemic. Should a further lockdown be reinstated, we may need to restrict the above services again. Our top priority is, and has always been, to keep you and our staff safe, whilst ensuring you get the care you need.
Thank you once again for your support and understanding during these unprecedented times.
In the meantime, please stay safe and we wish you well.
Dr David Jones
