NHS Services

We offer the full range of NHS core services free of charge to our registered patients. In addition, we offer a set of online tools for you to check which service is right for your symptoms, get immediate self-help advice, find out what other services can help you or send us an online consultation. It may help manage certain conditions, without the need to attend the surgery in person.

Nurse Practitioner Clinics

We have an Advanced Nurse Practitioner. Nurse Practitioners have extra training to enable them to deal with patients that in the past only a doctor would have been able to deal with.  They work as part of the Duty Team most days. When you ring in for an urgent appointment the Receptionist will ask for some brief details of your problem and you may be allocated an appointment with the Nurse Practitioner.  If they are not able to deal with your problem they will ask the Duty Doctor to see you.

The Treatment Room

The nurses provide a service for blood tests, routine dressings, removal of stitches, injections child and travel immunisations and cervical smears. There are specialist clinics for asthma, diabetes, coronary heart disease and epilepsy.  The nurses can also offer help and advice on minor illness, minor injury, emergency contraception and health promotion topics such as healthy eating and stopping smoking.

Sick Certificates

If you are absent from work due to illness for up to seven days you do not need a doctor’s certificate. You should complete a self certificate which you should get from your employer, NOT the surgery. If your employer insists on a certificate the doctor may be able to provide a private certificate but there will be a charge for this.

For absences longer than 7 days when a doctor’s certificate is required, the regulations have changed from first of April 2010 and it may be possible to issue a certificate without seeing you. If you are not sure whether you need to see a doctor for a sick note, please ask initially for a telephone consultation with your doctor who can advise you further. If you go in a to hospital and you need a sick certificate please ask the ward for a hospital certificate before you are discharged.

Please note – the doctor is able to back-date a sick certificate but cannot date in advance.

Other Practice Services

The practice provides maternity medical services, contraceptive services, minor surgery and child health surveillance. If you require emergency contraception please telephone the surgery and talk to our triage nurse. Should you be considering pregnancy your doctor would be happy to discuss pre-conceptual care to give your pregnancy a healthy start.

Counselling

The practice offers a counselling service. Please talk to your doctor if you feel you would benefit from this.

Non NHS Services

Our prime responsibility is for the health of our patients within NHS terms. Certain other services are offered on a private basis, where a fee is chargeable. These range from pre-employment medicals to private insurance claims for sickness benefits, fitness to drive and holiday cancellation certification etc.

Details of the charges are available at the reception desk.

Please note that special appointments are necessary for all medicals, elderly driver assessments etc. Please talk to the receptionist if you need an appointment for a medical examination.

Test Results (option 3 on your phone)

We are able to give the results of tests carried out by your doctor over the telephone from 14:00pm – 18.30pm.

The receptionists are only able to give you the result of the test if the doctor has seen the result and authorised them to tell you.

If you have had a test ordered by a doctor at the hospital you must contact the hospital for the result – the results are not routinely sent to us

Please note that x-ray results can sometimes take up to three week to reach us.
